Venetia read Economics at Trinity College, Cambridge.
She started her career in the early days of the swaps market at Paribas Capital Markets and then in the banking and capital markets team at Baring Brothers. She joined C. Hoare & Co. in 1991 and became the first female partner in 1996. Within the bank she has responsibility for banking and treasury and works closely with the customer-relationship managers.
She is involved in a number of charities with a particular focus on inequality and the environment. She was a founder trustee of Key4Life, rehabilitating young offenders, and is now a patron of Best Beginnings, helping to give the very young a better start in life.
Her weekends are spent on an organic farm in Somerset where considerable energy is spent fighting undesirable weeds and encouraging wildflowers and biodiversity.
